How we create our guides

We’re a small editorial team, and we’re honest about how our content is made. Every guide is researched, cross-checked and written specifically for UK readers. For each topic we:

Start with manufacturer guidance and care instructions — the people who make the material or appliance usually know best how to look after it.
Cross-check against trusted, authoritative sources — trade bodies, established cleaning brands, consumer advice and expert guidance — so the method is sound and safe.
Prioritise widely recommended, well-established methods over gimmicks, and flag the things that can damage a surface (for example, why acidic cleaners ruin natural stone, or why heat wrecks trainers and boots).
Write it up in plain English, with UK products, UK prices and British spelling, so you’re not translating American advice or hunting for products you can’t buy here.
Update guides as products change or better advice emerges.

Where a job is genuinely risky — antiques, valuable jewellery, specialist fabrics or anything you can’t afford to get wrong — we’ll say so and recommend testing on a hidden area first or speaking to a professional. We’d rather be cautious than confident and wrong.
